The privatisation guide, where you'll find all the privatisations, and the popular demutualisations, with a handy 'where are they now' summary.

If you hold shares in companies which were originally in either the public or mutual sectors, you may well find they're no longer who you thought they were! Many have merged, split, been taken over or have simply changed their name. This Guide enables you to quickly work out just who's who, with a summary of each share's history, its initial price, and first dealing date.

Check out each of your holdings and consider what action you need to take - you can use the company research section of this website to check out recent performance and even see what our Advice Team thinks of its prospects in the FTSE100 tips page.

As a customer of The Share Centre you can also speak with our expert advisers for free advice on how well the shares fit with your investment aims, by calling our Advice team … it's an ideal way to keep up to date and ensure you've got your investments in good order and you just pay for the call at your normal call rate.

Who's Who?

The name on the share certificate you hold may no longer be the same as the company you actually own a share in. When companies change their name or split into new businesses, you'll usually get a new certificate but don't have to return the old ones.

To find out what's become of your ex-privatisation or demutualisation shares check out our guide:

  • Table A shows which companies have changed their name;
  • Table B lists the companies who have merged or been taken over, and what became of their shares;
  • Table C shows companies that have split into different parts, an shows how your shares will have changed as a result, and
  • Table D is where you'll find companies you might still have shares in.
